I'm flying!

Lydia learned a new game with Daddy..."flying" on his legs. Here's a quick video of them in action. The voices in the background are Nanny (Dan's mom) and Uncle Adam (Dan's brother).

Whatcha been up to....

...nothing, but we sure stayed busy doing it. My friend from high school, Annette, was in town and came to hang out with me and Lydia for the afternoon. Annette has a few weeks off before she leaves for France, where she is attending graduate school! She's so fancy!

Lydia had her first play date with Elliana Easter. Ellie's mom, Erica, and I are in the same Sunday School class at Second Baptist Church. Ellie is a few weeks older than Lydia. It actually made me a little sad to see how big Ellie was because that means Lydia will be that big in a few weeks time. Why can't she just stay small?
My dearest friend, Jacquie, came for an afternoon visit. For the record, she came to see me not the baby! I was pretty jealous of Jacquie because she was on her way to see our hairdresser, Helen, for a new cut. I DESPERATELY need a hair cut and wanted to take Jacquie's appointment! Needless to say, her hair looked FABULOUS the next day. Helen is the best for cutting naturally curly hair! Also very exciting, I set up a play group with a few friends from church. We met on a Friday morning at my house. Lydia was kind of the party pooper and fell asleep about 30 minutes into it (and slept until everyone left). But, that gave me time to make yummy taco salads for the other moms and play with their babies too. Caleb Schneider was the only boy...such a lucky boy with all the cute girls around! Little Katie Gingrich took a nap right on the floor while the rest of us talked and played around her. What a good baby!

Little by little I'm finding ways to stay busy and connected with my new "stay at home mom" status. It's so easy to waste time, I hope God teaches me how to be WISE with my time!

Dan's First Father's Day (from Lydia)

Daddy- I was so happy when it was your handsome face peering over my crib this morning. I had just been dreaming about why I loved you so much. Here's a quick run down (I'm just a baby still, so the list is pretty short).

1. You work so hard every day to take care of me and mommy. I think working at a desk all day must be dull (no activity mats or blue elephant toys?...how boring), but you do it without complaining.

2. You smell good, just like a daddy should smell.

3. You make funny faces and noises. Cracks me up every time!

4. You give me the silliest nicknames like Liddybug and Liddy Liddy Gumdrops.

5. You sing in that low voice (I almost mistake you for Randy Travis half the time). All our songs about Jesus just sound better when you sing them to me.

And I love my grandpas too! You guys are hilarious...always trying to make me laugh!

Weekend in Review

We had a great weekend! On Saturday afternoon, Dan ate a few pounds of crawfish at our friend's annual crawfish boil. This year was a little different from years past since several of the women were new moms. But I was able to find a willing "mommy to be" (Jordan Maedgen) to hold Lydia while I enjoyed the party! That evening, we feasted with our dearest friends, David and Melissa Hollon. I'm blessed with a baby that will sleep anywhere so we watched Man vs. Wild with David and Melissa long into the night (okay, we left at 9:30). The fun did not stop then...Sunday was church, home for lunch, and up to the Woodlands to see my sister Amy and my parents. Lydia was showing off her talking skills and she even gave us her first laugh (I have several witnesses to support my opinion that she definitely laughed at me). It's going down in the baby book! I think they should make a mommy book though, then I could write down Sunday as the first time I was laughed at by my child. Probably a lot more of that in my future. Something to Talk About

Lydia turned 2 months old on Tuesday and had her first round of shots. I completely understood why she was screaming and crying. My reaction to shots to today is drastically similar to hers! The only needle that did not scare me was the epidural during labor...funny how that shot did not seem to hurt. The day after shots, Lydia was sleepy and subdued. My friend, Marjorie, came to visit her that evening. I was so excited when Marjorie broke Lydia out of her "funk" and got her talking and smiling again. I even captured it on video!

Amy's Baby Shower

My sister, Amy, and her husband, Jeremy, are expecting their first baby...a boy! Baby boy Martin is due to arrive aournd the second week of September. Here are some cute pics from Amy's baby shower (May 22nd). For all you creative/craft people...check out the "daddy apron" one of Amy's friends made for Jeremy. It's fully equiped to handle every baby situation, including disposal of the dirty diapers with tongs and a face mask! The funniest part is definitely Nancy's name and cell number embroidered for easy reading in case of an emergency while dad is in charge.

I thought I'd give a plug to our favorite mission organization, Peace Gospel International. The organization runs a dairy farm (which milks water buffalo instead of cows) in India.

The farm's profits support an orphanage, a widow's sewing school, clean water delivery to urban slum areas, a Bible College, and church planting among unreached areas.
